Mary Hohlt

Designer

Mary values synthetic thinking and interdisciplinary studies. Her undergraduate degrees in English and Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis are the foundation for her design thinking – she believes design is rooted in the understanding of people and analysis of place.

Mary brings a narrative approach to design and loves to use collages as a tool for design. She likes working at a broad scale, mapping connections and observations of a city, region, or landscape.

She has studied throughout the Americas, honing her appreciation for indigenous cultures and architecture. She has visited many archaeological sites in the US, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia, and has a passion for uncovering the stories of these places. Mary also loves visiting museums large, small, and obscure around the world. She likes finding things and putting them on display. She has a passion for the handmade – creations that reveal the person, material, and culture embedded in an object.

Mary joins EDR and New Orleans from New York, where she worked for women-owned firms, DLANDstudio Architecture + Landscape Architecture and Selldorf Architects. She is a proud native of Houston, Texas, and received her Master in Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin.
