Conducted in a rapid design process after several years of complex FEMA negotiations, the $63M renovation comprises a new central energy plant, 80-inpatient beds, a new, high-performance building envelope and a welcoming interior design scheme.

The previous hospital had been severely damaged by flooding and as such, it was decided to redistribute certain functions throughout the new facility to maintain operations and the safety of patients and personnel in the event of a ‘worst case scenario.’ Food service and administration—those unrelated to immediate life-saving care—are located at the ground floor, while critical functions (ER/OR), high-value mechanical systems, and emergency power are elevated above historic, 500-year flood levels.

This project was a full renovation and expansion of more than 200,000 SF of outpatient, inpatient and critical care facilities, and departmental offices; included new entrance, exterior visitor amenities, conference center; complete upgrades to MEP and digital infrastructure.
